What is a CNA?
Oregon Certified Nursing Assistants work under the supervision of a licensed nurse in a variety of settings such as nursing facilities, private homes, hospitals, hospice, and others. They provide care and assist clients with various tasks related to the activities of daily living. The tasks may be associated with personal care, mobility, nutrition and hydration, client safety, and data gathering, recording and reporting among others.
CNAs are certified by Oregon State Board of Nursing and are an important part of the medical team. They have serious responsibilities regarding the care of their clients and are required to keep their skills and knowledge up to date through continuing education.
The nursing assistant certification (CNA1) is the first step to obtaining a CNA2 or CMA (certified medication assistant ) certification. Becoming a CNA is also a speedy way to enter the health care field and gain experience before deciding to continue your education in a nursing program.
